The past years have seen major developments in the ICT sector in Mauritius and with it has come the wave of internet technology that has swept over the island.

Today almost every household has a PC connected to the internet. Internet is also available in all schools, public places, cyber cafes and post offices (free). In the past, the Mauritius Telecom (MT) was the only internet service provider (ISP) on the island, but now with more investment in this sector there are more and more companies offering Internet services.
Based on significant infrastructure improvements, in Q1 2016 one of the most significant Internet connection speed improvements (115%) has been recorded in Mauritius (5.6 Mbps).
1. Mauritius Telecom
MT provides a full spectrum of voice and data services using fixed-line, mobile and internet platforms. It also offers convergent services through My.T, its multiplay-IPTV service. Mobile users have access to MT’s Internet and TV services as well as MT mobile applications. Since the rebranding of all mobile and internet services in April 2008 to Orange, a strong international brand, there has been a quantum leap in providing customers with innovative services and experiences. To assist decision-making anytime, anywhere, the Company’s real time technology services and solutions, coupled with its experience and know-how, nowadays provide businesses with a one-stop solution for IP-based services, virtual private networks and high-speed internet access and application services. MT is investing in Fibre to the Home (FTTH), Fibre to the Business (FTTB), Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), ADSL and SHDSL technologies and is also now offering TelePresence and Cloud Computing solutions.
My.T is an IPTV service in Mauritius which is offered by Mauritius Telecom. My.T Watch offers subscribers access to a number of premium digital channels through the My.T set top box. The set top box also includes a Video On Demand (VOD) service allowing customers to purchase movies and access to a range of interactive services. The My.T Surf offers subscribers internet broadband connection and the My.T Talk offers subscribers low cost international calls to overseas countries. The My.T Watch service is offered over an IPTV infrastructure and then offers its channels to its customers. Recently My.T introduced fiber optic communication technology, commonly called La Fibre, which increases the internet speed. They also introduced several new TV features: Electronic Program Guide, TVOD, Contrôle du direct, Mosaic, Picture in Picture(PiP) and others.
2. Bharat Telecom
Bharat Telecom Ltd (BTL) is a public limited company incorporated in August 2010 and listed on the Development & Enterprise Market (DEM) of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) since July 2012. BTL is first industry-player to provide FTTH (Fibre to the Home) service to Mauritian households. Amongst other services IPTV and High Speed Broadband Internet will be introduced on this platform by the company. BTL has the vision to connect every home and office in the country with a fibre network.
Bees is the internet service brand of Bharat Telecom. Bees offers a Home Fibre Internet which promises “faster speed and unlimited downloads at affordable rates” as well as “no international bandwidth cap and network speeds of up to 10 Mbps”.
